Your Career as a Driver
You can command high salaries for permanent jobs through us, or for regular/intermittent agency work through us too – it all depends what suits you. You’ll also be helping to address the nationwide shortage of drivers.
This profession is gaining in popularity daily, with people being laid off from other jobs, and also among the stressed-out in other professions.
You choose your own hours and holiday dates. If you don’t want office work, the roads are open – no managers checking on your progress, lots of free time, good overtime pay, bonuses and up to twenty-one holidays per year.
No matter where you are on life’s road, and no matter what licence you currently hold, an HGV driver’s career is for you – so let's get you going right now.
Road Facts: The Nitty-Gritty
You can contact any one of our centres around the country and sign up for one of the following quick, five-day courses. You can then get to work with us straight away.
HGV licences are divided into two categories, which are known as 'Category C' and 'Category C+E'.
A 'Category C' vehicle is known as a Rigid, which means that the truck is all one unit and is therefore usually easier to drive.
This is also known as 'Class II'. A Category C (Class 2) license is needed to drive this vehicle.
A 'Category C+E' vehicle is known as an Articulated Lorry, or an Artic. This vehicle is also known as a 'Class I'.
What makes Artics different is that they have a separate cab and trailer, which can disconnect. It is more complicated to drive, so you would need to undergo a specialised training in order to operate the rear part of the lorry. Artic drivers also command higher wages.
Higher wages are also available to those driving certain types of load, and those who would like to explore the open roads beyond Britain’s borders. Contact us for further details.
A new driver must obtain the Rigid license before attempting to get one for the Artic. This can be achieved by attending a five-day training course.
After passing the Rigid license there is the option to take another of our five-day courses straight away in order to get the Artic license.
